BACKGROUND
TxDOT’s Carbon Reduction Program is designed to fund projects that will help reduce transportation emissions. The program provides an estimated $641 million over a five-year period. Together with MPOs and other stakeholders, TxDOT has identified seven (7) categories of planned strategies and related projects to spend the fundings.
PROJECT FEATURE
Under three (3) different CSJs, infraTECH, as the prime consultant, and sub consultants developed plans for vehicle detection upgrades for 37 intersections in Longview and Tyler MPOs and within City of Tyler under Advance Technologies strategy. Existing detection systems were replaced with ITERIS Vantage Vector/Next detection system that utilizes a combination for radar and camera sensors for vehicle detection. Radar is used for advance detection and camera is used for present detection.
Under a separate CSJ, infraTECH team designed pedestrian signals at five (5) existing signalized intersections in the City of Tyler that didn’t have pedestrian signals. To accommodate pedestrian crossings, curb ramps were introduced and modified at these locations. Marked crosswalks were provided.
RELEVANT SERVICES
infraTECH served as the prime for this project and was responsible for project management including managing sub consultants (Arcadis, Aguirre & Fields, and Kimley-Horn), design, coordination with TxDOT and local agencies, preparation of plans, specifications and estimates (PS&E).
