BACKGROUND
Located in Fisher county, TX, FM 57 between SH 70 and US 180 is a 2-lane undivided roadway with an average traffic of 1,250 vehicles per day. Multiple county roads and gravel driveways are present within this section. Additionally, there are two bridges and numerous culvert crossings. The roadway section lacks adequate shoulders causing safety issues. The bridges are reaching the end of their service lives making them structurally deficient.
PROJECT FEATURE
The project includes widening of shoulders on both sides of FM 57. Additionally, super elevation of some horizontal curves will be corrected. In some locations, roadway profiles have been redesigned to improve deficiency. Several cross culverts were extended. Jughandle ramps for the interchange with US 180 were redesigned to improve safety and operations of the interchange. Both shoulder and centerline rumble strips were installed to reduce the occurrences of run-off-the-road crashes.
Three bridges (US 180 overpass, Clear Fork, and Brazos River) were redesigned for structural sufficiency and to bring them up to the current standards. Complex traffic control plans were prepared to facilitate efficient construction of these bridges.
