BACKGROUND
The Port of Houston Authority (PHA) owns and operates numerous facilities in and around the greater Houston Metropolitan Area including Houston Ship Channel and Galveston Bay. The PHA undertook a Facility Inspection and Condition Inspection Program (FICAP) to provide a systematic approach towards asset management. The first phase of the FICAP included a) development of baseline drawings for the inspection and condition assessment and b) the performance and recording of the inspection and condition assessment.
PROJECT FEATURE
infraTECH worked on the development of baseline drawings for 40 marine assets of various complexities. These assets included: undeveloped shorelines, shoreline with bulkhead or riprap protection, simple wharf, moderate wharf/dock, and complex wharf and doc. Baseline drawings were prepared following the FICAP Manual based on the as-built drawings and other subsequent maintenance/repair drawings. infraTECH staff participated in a 3-day training. For some assets, only design drawing was available with multiple options. However, it was not known which option was eventually built. Through coordination of PHA and based on Googe Maps baseline drawings were prepared for these assets. Baseline drawings were converted to GIS for asset management purposes.
