BACKGROUND
Located close to downtown Houston, Buffalo Speedway is a 4-lane urban undivided section with an AADT of 22,000. The section between Bissonnet and Holcombe is a major thoroughfare with residential land use. There are three signalized intersections, numerous unsignalized intersections, and over 100 driveways in this section. Sidewalks are present on both sides of the roadway. Some of the existing driveways and curb ramps don’t meet the ADA standards. A couple of Metro bus stops are present within this segment.
PROJECT FEATURE
The project includes reconstruction of the concrete pavement for this section, drainage improvements, driveway, sidewalk and curb ramp improvements, and traffic signal reconstruction. Driveways and sidewalks were evaluated for compliance with ADA standards. Several driveways will be modified to meet the ADA requirements. All curb ramps, both at signalized and unsignalized intersections, will be redesigned per the ADA standards.
RELEVANT SERVICES
infraTECH was responsible for evaluation of sidewalk and curb ramps for ADA compliance, sidewalk design, preparing traffic control plans, signing, pavement markings, signals and illumination design, preparation of plans, specifications, and estimates (PS&E), and support during construction for this project.
