BACKGROUND

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) Abilene District is proposing to improve the approximately 2.23-mile long of FM 1750 from Industrial Boulevard to Colony Hill Road. In recent years, two (2) news schools have been established within the vicinity of the project area. Additionally, new subdivisions have been built on the west side of FM 1750 between Industrial Boulevard and Hardison Lane (CR 112). These developments have resulted in an increase in traffic and traffic conflicts between the through traffic and traffic turning lefts to and from numerous driveways. The purpose of this project is to enhance safety and accommodate traffic from increased developments.

PROJECT FEATURE

The proposed project includes widening of the existing 2-lane highway with 8-ft wide shoulders with open ditches on both sides to add a two-way-left-turn-lane (TWLTL) along FM 1750 and a sidewalk along one side of FM 1750 to accommodate pedestrians. Additionally, Hardison Lane and Colony Hill Road will be widened on the west side of FM 1750 to provide turn lanes.

As a part of the project, infraTECH developed schematic for the proposed condition. To support the schematic development, infraTECH developed traffic projections, performed detailed drainage analysis, identified ROW impacts, etc. Environmental studies were done by TxDOT. An additional 10-ft wide ROW will be acquired from nine (9) parcels on the east side of FM 1750. Some utilities will need to be relocated to accommodate widening of the intersections.
