CLIENT

US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Galveston District

LOCATION:

Freeport, Texas

BACKGROUND

The Freeport and Vicinity CSRM project is located at the coastal plains of the southern Brazoria County, about 48 miles southwest of Galveston, Texas. The existing system protects multiple chemical plants, in addition to the cities of Freeport and Oyster Creek. In 2019, it was predicted that up to $3B of estimated damage would occur if the system were to fail. Therefore, USACE SWG initiated flood protection system upgrade at the Freeport and Vicinity to minimize potential damage to existing infrastructure.

PROJECT FEATURE

infraTECH was responsible for the assessment of the existing DOW plant A and B sluice gates, replacement of six gravity drainage structures, inlet and outlet of drainage structures, and pump station fronting protection at Highway 690. The sluice gates were found to be deficient based on the latest S2G design criteria and two conceptual retrofit alternatives were developed. The final retrofit design included an addition of a steel HP pile foundation and pile cap, wall modification, adjustment of equipment platform above flood elevation. infraTECH also designed the replacement of drainage structure 10, a 182-foot long, 6’ x 6’ 10-barrel gravity drainage structure with slide gates.

RELEVANT SERVICES

infraTECH as a teaming partner to AECOM - HDR JV designed sluice gate strengthening, deep foundation retrofit of existing sluice gate, and new drainage structures.

"I have been working with infraTECH and their lead engineers for the last three years on Freeport projects. Their design work has always been outstanding. They prepared and presented the drainage structure scheme to USACE Galveston District and resolved comments on milestone deliverables. Overall infraTECH is a team player and supported us as needed to complete the assigned work. We are utilizing infraTECH on other task orders on this contract due their “can do attitude”, teamwork and quality deliverables."
